FIRST EXPLORATION WELL FOR SHELL IN BLACK SEA
In the beginning of June 2019 successfully concluded the first offshore project of the O&G major SHELL in the Bulgarian EEZ. The operator for the exploration well was the affiliate SHELL International Exploration and Development Italia S.p.A., Bulgaria branch.
The logistics support was materialized via the dedicated for similar projects base, deployed in Port Terminal Lesport, part of public port of national importance Varna.
Drilling itself, similar to the projects of Total Bulgaria, was performed by the drilling rig Globetrotter II, owned by the american consortium Noble Drilling. The location was about 70 nautical miles from the coast, with water depths of 1300 meters extending to 3000 – 4000 meters below seafloor.
The active phase continued for 2 months, during which the platform supply vessels performed 38 calls in the main logistics base Lesport and port Varna East, as well as 9 calls in Constanta, Romania.
The difference of this project compared to previous ones, was the significantly reduced presence of expert of the operator for managing the drilling activities on site. This reflected in extended participation and responsibility for Bon Marine – from planning the PSV rotation to coordinating the performance of all vendors and subcontractors.
The entire operation of the shore supply base was entrusted to Bon Marine experts, normally in the presence of only one SHELL representative with functions to coordinate only.
After project completion SHELL expressed a very high assessment for the efficient, safe and professional performance of our company contractual obligations.
After analyzing the samples acquired, and coordinating with its’ partners and the other O&G major and concessionaire in Black sea – Total, the two majors will announce their future plans in the region.
