GIRO D’ITALIA IS COMING: BULGARIA AT THE HEART OF WORLD CYCLING
This month, Bulgaria will host a historic moment in cycling—the start of one of the world’s most prestigious cycling tours, the Giro d’Italia. For the first time, the “Grande Partenza” will take place on Bulgarian soil, placing our country in the international sporting spotlight and attracting riders, teams and fans from around the world.
📍 Stages in Bulgaria:
– Stage 1: Nessebar–Burgas (156 km) – 8 May
A flat route along the Black Sea coast, ideal for sprinters, with a bunch finish expected in Burgas.
– Stage 2: Burgas–Veliko Tarnovo (220 km) – 9 May
A longer and more challenging stage featuring climbs through the Balkan Mountains and a dynamic finish towards Lyaskovets Pass.
– Stage 3: Plovdiv–Sofia (174 km) – 10 May
A combination of climbs and flat sections, passing through Borovets Pass and ending with a sprint finish in Sofia.
🚴♂️ WHAT TO EXPECT:
🚧 Temporary road closures
– Roads along the routes will be completely closed to traffic for several hours
– Restrictions will affect major roads and city entry and exit points
🚗 Traffic congestion and diversions
– Traffic will be redirected
– Alternative routes are expected to become busier
🏙️ Restrictions in urban areas
– Central boulevards will be closed
– Parking restrictions will be introduced
– Public transport services will be temporarily changed
📌 Important:
The disruptions will be temporary and will mainly affect the days on which the stages take place—8 to 10 May.
